Microsoft to Release .NET Framework Source Code in v3.5

Microsoft will begin by offering the source code (with source file comments included) for the .NET Base Class Libraries ASP.NET, Windows Forms, ADO.NET, XML, and WPF. The source code will be released under the Microsoft Reference License (MS-RL).

How cool is that? Not because I think Microsoft is all that great, but because the giant, the behemoth, the 800 pound gorilla is finally getting it: USE THE SOURCE, LUKE! Developers LOVE source code. We love to know how things work, and when you keep us from seeing behind the curtain, from peeking at the wizard, from spotting the 800 pound gorilla in his favorite pink G-String (it could happen), we just can’t get all that excited about your software. Sorry, that’s just how it is.
